Planning Democracy
We are a grassroots organisation campaigning for a fairer more inclusive planning system that works for both people and planet.
Planning is crucial for food to ensure proper food distribution. By regulating planning determines how sustainable food systems are, whether they are environmentally sound. Planning affects what land is made available for food growing. We are keen to promote healthy food systems that work for the environment and people. In particular we are keen to promote equitable food systems and a planning system that is just and allows communities power to affect decisions around land use. Hence we are joining the food coalition to help promote these. We seek support for our campaign for Equal Rights of Appeal to enable people to challenge planning decisions that run counter to the purpose of the Good Food Nation’s aims, which currently people cannot do. This is a gross injustice that if righted will change the power dynamics of the current system that is weighted towards developers and development, but that gives communities no substantive rights.
